You know those rare occasions where you purchase something, leave it on the shelf for a good few months, then out of nowhere you say; 'hey...show me what you got', and before you know it, you realise you've been sitting on a gem this whole time? Yes - this is definitely one of those blessed occasions. The Product:
Afroveda: Totally Twisted Ginger Almond Butter Cream
Price:
£6.50 [2oz] £15.50 [8oz] at British Curlies
Product Description/Instructions:
Thick, Curly or Natural Hair - Adds intense moisture to dry hair. With Ayurvedic botanicls of Bhringaraj, Amla, Ashwagandha and Neem to moisturize and rejuvenate dry and frizzy coils and kinks.
- Hair butters are used to infuse intense moisture into the hair. Use nightly on the ends of dry hair by melting a small amount in palms of hands and applying to hair. Wrap hair with a satin scarf before bed (or sleep on a satin pillowcase).
- Can also be used on clean, wet hair to infuse moisture, or as a styling aid for twists or braids. Remember, a little goes a long way!
I usually turn to my trusty Shea Butter when it comes to twisting my hair for the night so, imagine my shock when I realised that I hadn't yet lined up a replacement as this batch was almost through. Luckily, it invited me to think fast and lo and behold - Afroveda!
The consistency is thick and creamy, similar to when you mix Shea Butter with oils, has quite a mild scent and is easy to smooth into your palms for application.
I had washed my hair in the morning, so there was minimal product in it. I roughly parted off a medium section of my hair in the evening, lightly rubbed a fingertip sized amount into my palms and applied it through the sectioned off hair. I proceeded to flat twist my hair, adding a little more product to the ends. I repeated this until I had a total of 5 flat-twists. I then tied on a satin scarf to go to bed.
The next morning, I waited until I was dressed per usual before untwisting (untwisting before hitting the shower is an EPIC fail - shrinkage ain't the one!) and lightly fluffed out my hair. My hair was stretched out, but each strand was clearly moisturised while still giving me that big-big hair look - a look that can be hard to acheive without it looking dry.
Verdict:
Two snaps for Afroveda TT! I just LOVE the results I achieved with this product. It gets top marks for all the goodies in the ingredients list (see below), and after initially being reluctant to try something new when my Shea Butter had been doing a fine job already, I am pleasantly suprised by the results. I have used it almost every night for the past week and will definitly be re-purchasing when this 2oz tub runs out.
